Reflexology is a non-intrusive and highly relaxing health therapy. Its aim is to help the body to heal itself and to maintain a balanced state of health. Much like acupuncture, reflexology is not based on pure scientific fact, but rather thousands of years of trial and error, patterns and an elaborate mapping of the energies of the body. There is evidence that reflexology was developed as early as 4,000BC in China, where its use remains widespread (schoolchildren in Beijing are taught to do it on each other). Foot therapy was practised by Native American tribes, and in Ancient Egypt. Though it is still a somewhat controversial practice, its reported benefits range from stress relief and relaxation to increased blood circulation.

How does it work?

By working on specific reflex points on the feet, which correspond to different organs of the body, energy lines are unblocked and the body is rebalanced, by pressing on one of these points the corresponding organ is affected. If crystals or tenderness is felt in a certain area it is an indication of a blockage or imbalance in the corresponding organ or body parts. Crystals are waste deposits made up of excess calcium and uric acid that build up when the metabolism is not working correctly. Our reflexologist at DD Clinical will first give you a relaxing foot soak and then use the finest essential oils to suit your needs. She will spend time working on these crystals and sensitive areas using the thumbs and sometimes fingers to help release the blockages and break down the deposits so they can be eliminated by the body. Fabulous to support detox, boost energy and clarity.
