Many thousands of people in the UK suffer from hay fever and the symptoms can turn Spring and Summer into a nightmare of sneezing, coughing and sore, watery eyes. There are a variety of ways to help deal with the symptoms of hay fever, such as decongestants and anti-histamines but if you have severe hay-fever, that is resistant to alternative treatments then a Kenalog injection may be right for you.
Each Kenalog injection contains Triamcinolone acetonide 40mg/1ml as the active ingredient. Triamcinolone acetonide belongs to a group of medicines called corticosteroids (steroids). The principal effect of corticosteroids is to the body’s inflammatory & allergic response.
A Kenalog injection does not cure hay fever. It works by decreasing the body’s immune response to reduce symptoms. Many people find the relief from symptoms commonly lasts the entire season.
It can be given when the first symptoms of allergy appear and is a one off dose. It usually starts to work with a few days.
When you receive a Kenalog injection you must not be exposed to chicken pox, measles or other communicable diseases as antibody response will be reduced.
Consultation and Procedure:
Before having a Kenalog injection one of our clinical practitioners will need to carry out clinical assessments to check if you have any other medical conditions which may make the Kenalog injection unsuitable for you. If the assessment indicates it’s appropriate for you, they will administer the injection at the time of the consultation.
Kenalog is an injection that is injected into the buttock (gluteal) muscle. This is known as an Intra-Muscular (IM) injection.
