Dermal Fillers

As our faces change over time, it’s normal for skin to lose some of its original elasticity and skin support structures. This can cause changes in the shape as the facial fat pads gravitate downwards and skin begins to sag around the eyes, lips, cheeks, jaw, chin and nose.

Dermal fillers are one way of giving affected areas a boost by plumping up the skin’s appearance and replacing the lost volume.

Why Choose Dermal Fillers?

The aim of Dermal Fillers is to enhance your natural look by refining the structure of your face and balancing the contours of your natural features.

Dermal fillers use ingredients that encourage the retention of water in the treated area, which restores its volume and adds firmness to the skin.

Benefits of Dermal Fillers include:

  • Helps to reduce signs of ageing, facial wrinkles and skin folds
  • Immediate results with zero downtime
  • Long-lasting results
  • Minimal side effects — little swelling or redness near the injected area is normal
  • Hydrates and plumps the skin
  • Helps to improve self-confidence and look good with minimal effort

At DD Clinical, we always put our clients best interests first, which is why our medical practitioners use the latest products to ensure you’re comfortable during the treatment and have a fast and effortless recovery.

Dermal fillers are applied just below the surface of the skin. They contain hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a substance our bodies already produce naturally. Adding high levels of HA to specific areas has the effect of attracting and retaining more water to the area. This instantly improves the appearance and texture by restoring its natural plumpness.

This treatment is used in several areas of the body, including:

Lips
Dermal fillers will add volume in a way that complements your lip shape, resulting in a naturally beautiful look.

Cheeks
Adding fillers to your cheeks creates a contoured and fuller look, helping to plump up areas that may naturally start to gravitate downwards.

Jaw
As the skin around the jaw begins to droop, sagging jowls appear and change the shape of a face. Dermal fillers give extra support to the facial structures, restoring the triangle of youth.

Nose
Dermal fillers offer a non-surgical option for reshaping an asymmetrical nose, with a much less invasive treatment and recovery time.

Chin
To redefine the shape of your chin, dermal fillers will add volume to create a more structured profile and balanced facial features.

Marionette Lines
These are folds which slope downwards from the corners of the mouth and are effectively lifted and smoothed out by dermal fillers.

Nasolabial Folds
Dermal fillers applied around the nose and mouth will smooth these folds and reduce their appearance.

Under eyes
Having bags under our eyes is often associated with tiredness. Dermal fillers plump up the hollow area, reducing the darker appearance and making you look and feel refreshed again.

Hands
Dermal fillers can stimulate the collagen and improve the appearance of veiny or wrinkly hands.

The first step is to have a complimentary consultation to talk through the procedure and any concerns you may have. We will take a full medical history and offer advice on aftercare and lifestyle to ensure you get the best results.

You can then decide to have the treatment on the same day or to go away and think about it further. We’re there to help you make the decision that’s right for you.

The treatment itself

Dermal fillers are a simple, effective procedure. Our experienced medical practitioners attend regular training in the most up to date techniques and use the latest and safest products to ensure you have a comfortable experience.

Before we start, we’ll apply a topical anaesthetic, which is a cream that numbs the area. The dermal filler is then injected just under the skin along with another local anaesthetic called Lidocaine. This helps continue to numb the area while the treatment is administered.

The procedure takes between 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the area being treated.

Dermal fillers create a naturally enhanced look, and the results last six to twelve months. Because it’s a fast and uncomplicated treatment, it’s a great way to treat sagging features without any impact on your lifestyle, and most people return to work immediately. It’s also a much less invasive approach than surgery and can be highly effective.

For the majority of people, there are no side effects at all. However, in some cases, there may be redness, swelling or tenderness around the treated area. Often this resolves within a few hours.

Occasionally lumps and bumps do occur. To avoid this, we advise you not to massage the area yourself as this can move the dermal filler product. If you need any adjustments after the treatment, you’ll be invited back to the clinic. Our expert clinician will then use a specialised massage technique, which settles the product and creates a smooth finish.

The aftercare requirements for dermal fillers will vary depending on the area being treated. We advise you not to apply creams or make-up for at least six hours after the treatment. It’s also best not to expose the area to extreme heat for at least a week. Apart from that, you will usually be able to return to work within 24 hours and feel fully recovered after 48 hours.

In advance of your treatment, you’ll receive a thorough consultation to advise you on any other aftercare requirements for your particular procedure.

You should avoid dermal filler treatment if the following are relevant:

  • You have a history of severe allergy
  • You are taking anti-coagulant and immunosuppressant drugs
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding

Our practitioners can advise you on alternatives to hyaluronic acid products if required, and we’ll talk you through this plus any other risks or concerns you have at your initial consultation.

Dermal fillers cost anything between £200-£1,500 depending on the area you are looking to treat. We offer complimentary consultations in advance of all procedures, where you can discuss any concerns you have and create a treatment plan.
