Dermal Fillers

Facial aging is due to changes in several types of tissue including skin, fat, muscle and bone. Changes in one tissue layer have an effect on the other layers. With age the skin undergoes several changes, which include the skin becoming dryer, thinner and less elastic. These changes leading the skin to become more likely to sag.

When the natural volume of the skin diminishes, wrinkles and folds start to form. The more mobile facial areas are the first to be effected by this. Skin will eventually begin to sag.

Facial fillers can work by plumping up your skin, smooth wrinkles and fill out deep lines by replacing the collagen lost due to the natural aging process or skin damage. Premium dermal fillers such as Juvederm are injected in small controlled doses under the surface of skin of the area to be treated.

Such areas to be treated by Dermal fillers include; lip lines, lip augmentation cheekbone enhancement and contouring, Nasolabial folds, jaw line contouring. Nose re shaping, temple hollowing tear trough treatments as well as improving fine lines and wrinkles as well as providing lift to scar tissue and acne scarring.

Dermal fillers are one of the most popular anti-ageing treatments in the world and date back as far as the early 1890’s! They are safe, effective, relatively inexpensive and give great natural looking results.

Find out more about Dermal Fillers

What are Dermal Fillers?

They are sterile gels manufactured and tested by major pharmaceutical companies and produced using Hyaluronic Acids – proteins that exist naturally in almost all living organisms. In our bodies these proteins attract water and hydrate our skin to give a look of natural vitality, but, like so many things, we’re not as good at producing them as we grow older. Thankfully help is at hand!

Hyaluronic acid is used to make a synthetic gel that can be injected under the surface of the skin to plump out wrinkles. Even better; it continues to attract water and rehydrate the skin for months after the treatment and even though the results are instant they continue to improve for up to two weeks giving you a gradually enhanced skin tone that looks natural and healthy.

We’ve come a long way from the origins of the treatment in 1890, when fat was extracted from one part of the body and injected into another!

Where can dermal fillers be applied?

It is most common for these fillers to be used on areas of the face – around the mouth, eyes, chin and lips, although they can safely be used anywhere on the body with the same great results.

How long do the effects last?

To some extent this depends where you have the treatment. The effects typically last between 6 and 18 months and the determining factor is blood flow – in areas with high blood flow, such as the lips, the results will be fantastic but the gel will be reabsorbed into the body more quickly. In lower blood flow areas, such as around the eyes or on the chin you will find the results are longer lasting. Most people choose to repeat their treatment every 6 or 12 months.

Do dermal fillers make your face look swollen or puffy?

Absolutely not. Our highly trained clinical practitioners will apply the fillers with the greatest care and attention, injecting only the tiny amounts needed to plump out wrinkles and not enough to make you look swollen or puffy.

For many treatments there are no visible after effects (apart from incredible younger looking skin!) and you’ll be able to return to work immediately afterwards. If you do have a little redness at the injection sites our clinicians will be happy to apply some makeup to help you to cover it up; we’re confident it won’t last for more than an hour or two.

Lips are slightly different. Lips are very sensitive and the treatment may cause some localised swelling or even a slightly uneven appearance for a day or two. We recommend that you time your lip treatment carefully and don’t have to return immediately to work or go straight to a social occasion. A cold poultice after treatment can help to reduce any swelling and avoiding alcohol or anti-inflammatories for 48 hours before treatment can reduce the risk of swelling and/or bruising.

Does it hurt?

No, the gels are designed to include small amounts of local anaesthetic to reduce any discomfort so no additional numbing of the area is necessary. The 30/40-minute treatment may be a little uncomfortable but our careful and experienced practitioners will make sure that discomfort is kept to an absolute minimum.

Do dermal fillers have side effects?

For the vast majority of clients this is a simple no. In very rare cases there may be some hypersensitivity or infection at the injection site but if for any reason you have concerns following your treatment, there is a naturally occurring enzyme (hyaluronidase) that can be injected to dissolve the gel.

What does the appointment involve?

The first thing you’ll need is a free no-obligation consultation with our expert consultants. You can talk to them about where you think you may need dermal fillers and they’ll offer you their experienced recommendations. They’ll also take a full medical history and give you some great advice on how lifestyle, general health and wellbeing can affect your results. You’ll need to sign a consent form for the treatment and after your consultation you can either go on to have your fillers on the same day or take some time to go away and think about it.

Either way we are absolutely confident that you’ll make the decision that’s right for you and that after your treatment you’ll be amazed by the results; younger looking, firmer, plumper skin that makes you look, and feel, great!

The 8-point lift is an innovative anti-ageing technique. It can lift and rejuvenate the face, creating a much more youthful appearance. The real appeal of this treatment is that our patients have seen dramatic results in a non-surgical manor.
