PDO Thread Face Lifts

PDO threading is a popular, non-surgical treatment used to lift and tighten skin, leaving you looking instantly younger and revitalised.

The threads are used to lift and tighten the skin by stimulating new collagen production, reducing wrinkles, tightening pores and creating volume.

Honey Derma Threads are made of soluble PDO (Polydioxanone), a material used in medicine for many years, mainly in surgery. PDO relaxes muscles and tendons while stimulating the production of new collagen in the skin. PDO also stimulates the production of elastin and hyaluronic acid in the skin, vital for creating youthful looking skin. Effective in facial lifting and wrinkle removal through self-stimulation of cell.

PDO Threads are both biodegradable and biocompatible.

The results are immediate, you can return to work the following day and there’s no scarring. In fact, this procedure is often referred to as the ‘lunchtime lift’ because it’s so quick and easy!

It’s no secret that as we get older our faces (and everything else!) tend to move a little south, leaving us with areas of unwanted sagging around our jowls, necks, cheeks and eyebrows. If you are always lifting your chin in photos to reduce the appearance of age, then this quick and easy treatment could be the answer to restoring your vitality and confidence.

What are PDO threads?

Polydioxanone threads are commonly used in surgical procedures and are better known as dissolvable stitches. They can be used in varying lengths to treat sagging and loose skin in areas of the face and neck and they dissolve naturally after approximately 180 days (6 months).

How does PDO threading work?

The PDO Thread is inserted into the skin through a very fine needle or cannula causing an artificial wound, inducing a healing effect improving the skin. Creating upper and lower contraction between skin and muscle, or skeletons, the thread causes a lifting effect. When located in solid tissue, near bones or ligament, the fixed tissue has stronger adhesion effect to the skin.

Different lengths and thicknesses of thread are used for different areas of the face and body. Short strands of threads are often used to treat fine lines, while thicker strands are often used for deeper lines and for lifting. There are Mono and Cog Threads and the choice of which is necessary will all be discussed during your consultation when the Susan – Our Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner will develop a treatment plan.

The threads are gently tightened to manipulate the skin into the desired shape; don’t worry, this is done very carefully by our professional consultants and will leave you with a completely natural younger appearance.

How long do the effects last?

This is the really clever bit! The insertion of PDO threads causes the body to increase its natural production of collagen and elastin, which bundle around the threaded area. This means that even after the threads have dissolved your skin will have increased firmness and elasticity so the results (younger, firmer looking skin with improved texture and reduced wrinkles) can last for up to two years with no further treatments. There is also evidence that the threads induce lipolysis (fat cell death), meaning that having a PDO lift can also help to break up stubborn areas of unwanted fat.

Is PDO threading safe?

Yes. The threads are sterile, strong and non-allergenic and the risk of side effects is minimal. As with any procedure there is an element of risk; some patients might experience a small amount of swelling, bruising or tenderness in the treated areas but our highly experienced doctors will help to keep this to a minimum.

Does it hurt?

We’re not going to lie, there can be a small amount of discomfort associated with this procedure but our practitioners will keep this to a minimum using local anaesthetics. You will be awake and happily chatting to us throughout your treatment and will be able to tell us if you’re experiencing any pain. The vast majority of patients report a slight tugging sensation that feels a little strange but not painful.

Does PDO threading have a lengthy recovery time?

Not at all. You can return to work the following day with all the benefits of younger, firmer skin and increased confidence. We do recommend that you avoid strenuous exercise for 2-3 weeks though, just to give the treatment sites time to heal fully.

How long does the treatment take?

When you first come to see us we’ll need to do a full consultation. This will include assessing the treatment site, taking some photographs and taking your full medical history. It’s important for us to understand whether you’re taking any medications or have a history of any long term medical conditions. If you decide to go ahead with the treatment (the consultation is free of any obligation) then the procedure typically takes between 40 and 60 minutes.

If you’re ready to look younger, feel more confident and get rid of those annoying signs of ageing then why not give us a call?
